Work/life balance to get pregnant
If you’re sat there thinking “why am I not pregnant yet?”, then rest assured you are not alone and there are simple lifestyle adjustments you can make which will significantly improve your chances of falling pregnant.
‘Work/life balance’ is a term that has been bounded around in the media over the last 10 years to such an extent that we don’t even see or hear it any more. However, its impact on our health and happiness is significantly underestimated. For example, in women work stress can cause an overproduction of the reproductive hormone prolactin, which can interfere with ovulation – an essential component for conception.
When was the last time you made time to relax, read a good book or have a long soak in the bath? When work takes over, stress becomes a big part of our everyday life.
Next time you have a spare half hour, take a notepad and write down how your average week fits together: How much of your week is devoted to work? Do you make time to relax and have fun? How much of your time is devoted to others / yourself? If your work is unavoidably stressful then try to schedule in some regular exercise, deep breathing techniques, meditation or visualisation to counteract the negative impact of stress on you and your life.
