Candida – is it affecting your fertility?

Candida Albicans is a yeast which most of us have in our bodies. When we’re healthy it doesn’t bother us, as it lives harmlessly alongside beneficial gut bacteria. But when our natural balance is disturbed, it can overgrow and change to a fungal form, causing a variety of symptoms from headaches, bloating, mood swings, sugar cravings, thrush and skin problems, to problems with fertility and conception.

If you’ve had multiple prescriptions of antibiotics over the years, even as a child, or if you’ve used the contraceptive pill, your natural yeast and bacterial balance may have become disturbed, predisposing you to Candida symptoms.

And if you recognise any of the symptoms listed above, it may be worth checking out whether you’ve got Candida if you’re trying to get pregnant.

To encourage the Candida to die off you’ll need to cut out the things it loves - sugar and yeast - to starve it, and take a good quality probiotic supplement. Homeopathic treatment can also help to eliminate Candida and restore the natural balance to your body.

It’s very possible to get rid of Candida symptoms and you’ll feel healthier as a result, plus you’ll be in a far better position to get pregnant.

If you think you may have Candida symptoms, why not post a comment below and we’ll advise you on the best steps to take.

I tried for 3years to get pregnant and finally did. We are Americans living in Beijing, and had our healthy baby boy at an International hospital here in China. 2 months later, I took him to the States to meet family and see a local pediatrician. The Dr. discovered my son’s sacral dimple–a sign of lack of folic acid in the Mother’s diet during pregnancy. Because I wasn’t able to get pregnant, when I finally did I didn’t have a prenatal vitamin to take and couldn’t get one until I returned to the states in my 2nd trimester.

I am now trying to conceive again. 7 months and no luck. I have been doing research online and reading books. At first I thought I may have progesterone deficiency, but as I read more I realized my symptoms have more to do with Candida. I found this by googling “folic acid deficiency.” Since my first son was born with the sacral dimple I am positive I have that. It led me to Candida and your website. My symptoms are: vaginal itchiness since childhood, sensitivities to smells especially perfume since late adolescence, PMS–especially low back pain, constipation all month long, hemorrhoids, teenage acne–until I took acutane in my early 20s, white film on tounge, cold sores, sore toungue after eating fruit and citrus.

Can you help me? I really want to get this problem solved so I can get pregnant again.

Thank you for your comment. Yes we feel we can help you. Our approach to fertility treatment is holistic focusing on rebalancing the whole system helping your body to function at its optimal level. From what you have said there may well be candida in your system. Your monthly mucus production can be also be an indicator of candida in the system, so we would recommend you try our Complete Fertility Testing Kit which contains a guide to see if your mucus is too acidic or not.
You may also be right about your progesterone levels being too low as some of your symptoms suggest hormonal imbalance ie: PMS symptoms, late acne etc.. We feel homeopathic treatment could help restore your hormone balance.
We suggest you do our Juno Fertility MOT so we can look at your and your partner’s fertility status in more detail and produce a comprehensive report for you both focusing on what may be preventing you from falling pregnant. The report will also give you advice and suggestions for subsequent tests and treatment that are suitable for you in your situation. Please go to our products page for more information on the Complete Fertility Testing Kit and Juno Fertility MOT.
